referring to many, but referring to one, “And to your offspring,” who is Christ.
4. Jesus’ fulfillment has united all believers in himself, Gal. 3.28 – There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus.
5. Jesus is the fulfillment of all of God’s promise for all time, Col. 3.11 – Here there is not Greek and Jew, circumcised and uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave, free; but Christ is all, and in all.
E. Implications of the promise of God for studying the Old Testament
1. The promise unifies our understanding of God’s divine revelation.
a. The God of Abraham is the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.
b. The testaments deal with the same essential story: the unfolding fulfillment of God’s promise to Abraham in the person of Jesus Christ.
2. The Bible may have numerous subjects and segments, but it only has a single unifying theme: the revelation (unveiling) of Jesus Christ. When read with Christ in mind, the veil of misunderstanding the Old Testament is taken away.
