E. The Feast of Trumpets
Jer. 16.14-15 Therefore, behold, the days are coming, declares the Lord, when it shall no longer be said, “As the Lord lives who brought up the people of Israel out of the land of Egypt,” [15] but “As the Lord lives who brought up the people of Israel out of the north country and out of all the countries where he had driven them.” For I will bring them back to their own land that I gave to their fathers.
1. Type: Lev. 23.23-25; September 1; a celebration of solemn rest, with a memorial proclaimed with blast of trumpets in a holy convocation, accompanied by an offering by fire to the Lord
2. Antitype: This celebration is a type of Christ’s return and the regathering of Israel by Jesus Christ (cf. Matt. 24.29-31; Ezek. 37.11-14; Jer. 16.14-15).
F. The Day of Atonement
1. Type: Lev. 23.26-32; September 10; where the high priest made atonement for Israel, Zech. 13.1
2. Antitype: This represents Christ’s offering of himself as a sacrifice for our sin on Calvary, as well as his offering of himself in the heavenly tabernacle for our sin (cf. Rom. 11.26).
G. The Feast of Tabernacles
1. Type: Lev. 23.33-43; September 15-22 [week-long celebration]
2. Antitype: This celebration typifies Israel’s regathering and rest with Jesus Christ at his second coming (cf. Zech. 14.16-21; Amos 9.13-15) .
