1. Bethlehem was his place of birth.
a. David, 1 Sam. 17.12 – Now David was the son of an Ephrathite of Bethlehem in Judah, named Jesse, who had eight sons. In the days of Saul the man was already old and advanced in years.
b. Jesus, Luke 2.11 – For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.
2. Both were born in lowly reputation.
a. David, 1 Sam. 18.23 – And Saul’s servants spoke those words in the ears of David. And David said, “Does it seem to you a little thing to become the king’s son-in-law, since I am a poor man and have no reputation?”
b. Jesus, Luke 2.7 – And she gave birth to her firstborn son and wrapped him in swaddling cloths and laid him in a manger, because there was no place for them in the inn.
3. He was chosen and anointed by God to rule over God’s people Israel.
a. David, 1 Sam. 16.12 – And he sent and brought him in. Now he was ruddy and had beautiful eyes and was handsome. And the Lord said, “Arise, anoint him, for this is he.”
b. Jesus, Matt. 3.16-17 – And when Jesus was baptized, immediately he went up from the water, and behold, the heavens were opened to him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and coming to
