Matt. 16.15-18 He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?” [16] Simon Peter replied, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” [17] And Jesus answered him, “Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jonah! For flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my Father who is in heaven. [18] And I tell you, you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.”

a. Definition: Jesus’ command to healed persons, disciples, and others not to report miraculous works of Jesus’ identity to others

b. Possible explanation: John 6.15 – Perceiving then that they were about to come and take him by force to make him king, Jesus withdrew again to the mountain by himself.

B. The Passion predictions of Jesus

1. Of the suffering, death, and resurrection of Messiah

a. Mark 8.31 – And he began to teach them that the Son of Man must suffer many things and be rejected by the elders and the chief priests and the scribes and be killed, and after three days rise again.

b. Mark 9.31 – . . . for he was teaching his disciples, saying to them, “The Son of Man is going to be delivered into the hands of men, and they will kill him. And when he is killed, after three days he will rise.”
