(4) Christ reveals to us that we ought to arm ourselves with a mind to suffer even as our Lord did in the accomplishment of our redemption, 1 Pet. 4.1-6. (5) Christ reveals to us that even as we share in the sufferings of Christ, so we will also share in his glory, 1 Pet. 4.12-19. (6) Christ reveals to us that all of God’s people are participating in common sufferings around the world, and when it is completed, we will be perfected, confirmed, strengthened, and established by God, 1 Pet. 5.10-11. (1) Our faithful perseverance in suffering is rooted in eyewitness testimony of his glory, and should lead us to the pursuit of holiness, ch. 1. (2) Our faithful perseverance should not be undermined by the false teachers who will come, and yet ultimately will be judged by God, ch. 2. (3) Our faithful perseverance is anchored on the sure mercies of God, whose delay in judgment ought not be seen as a sign of weakness but the offer of grace to all to repent, ch. 3. f. 2 Peter continues this theme of the coming glory after suffering.
