c. Saints are “betrothed” to Christ as a fiancee, 2 Cor. 11.2 – I feel a divine jealousy for you, for I betrothed you to one husband, to present you as a pure virgin to Christ.
3. The visions of paradise (the new universe, the city, and the garden) are images prophetically tied to the glorious destiny of intimate, unbroken fellowship with God for all eternity .
a. The promise of a new heaven and new earth, Isa. 65.17; 66.22
b. The vision of the Holy City, as the place of God’s own presence with his people forever, Rev. 21.10
c. The allusions to the Tree of life and the river of life provide images of Eden-restored, the place of God’s blessing, unrestricted presence, and unbroken fellowship (see Ezek. 47).
d. The face of God will be seen–the picture of transparent intimacy and knowledge with the Lord and one another, cf. Exod. 33.20; John 1.14, 18; 14.9, and 1 Cor. 13.12.
