c. Luke 7.26-28 – “What then did you go out to see? A prophet? Yes, I tell you, and more than a prophet. [27] This is he of whom it is written, ‘Behold, I send my messenger before your face, who will prepare your way before you.’ [28] I tell you, among those born of women none is greater than John. Yet the one who is least in the Kingdom of God is greater than he.”

C. His striking manner and appearance, Matt. 3.4

1. Matt. 11.8 – What then did you go out to see? A man dressed in soft clothing? Behold, those who wear soft clothing are in kings’ houses.

2. Mark 1.6 – Now John was clothed with camel’s hair and wore a leather belt around his waist and ate locusts and wild honey.

3. Luke 1.17 – . . . and he will go before him in the spirit and power of Elijah, to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the disobedient to the wisdom of the just, to make ready for the Lord a people prepared.”

D. John’s unique relationship to Jesus

1. As a witness to the truth in Messiah Jesus

a. John 5.33 – You sent to John, and he has borne witness to the truth.

b. John 1.6-7 – There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. [7] He came as a witness, to bear witness about the light, that all might believe through him.
