(6) Prayer must be sincere, offered with reverence and godly fear, Heb. 10.22 – let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, with our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water (cf. 1 Chron. 28.9; 29.17; Pss. 9.1; 32.11; 51.10). (a) With a passion to be heard and answered, Neh. 1.6; Pss. 17.1; 55.1-2; 61.1; 27.7; 102.2; 108.6; 143.1 (b) With an earnestness and persistence, 1 Thess. 3.10; James 5.17; Genesis 32.26; Luke 11.8-9; 18.1-7 b. Prayer must be constant, (i.e., night and day, everywhere, without ceasing, in everything, with thanksgiving), Col. 4.2 – Continue steadfastly in prayer, being watchful in it with thanksgiving (cf. Luke 11.5-13; 18.1-8; Acts 2.42; 1 Thess. 5.17; Phil. 4.6-7; 1 Tim. 2.8; 5.5). c. Prayer must be offered with joyful and unconditional submission to God’s will, Heb. 5.7 – In the days of his flesh, Jesus offered up prayers and supplications, with loud cries and tears, to him who was able to save him from death, and he was heard because of his reverence (cf. Mark 14.32-39; Matt. 26.28ff; John 17.1ff.).
