5. Central principles

a. The mind of one who does not have the Spirit of God is alienated and futile vis-a-vis the truth of God in Christ.

(1) Ps. 94.11 – The Lord – knows the thoughts of man, that they are but a breath.

(2) Prov. 15.26 – The thoughts of the wicked are an abomination to the Lord, but gracious words are pure. (3) Isa. 55.7 – let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts; let him return to the Lord, that he may have compassion on him, and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon. (4) Matt. 15.19 – For out of the heart come evil thoughts, murder, adultery, sexual immorality, theft, false witness, slander. (5) Rom. 8.7 – For the mind that is set on the flesh is hostile to God, for it does not submit to God’s law; indeed, it cannot. (6) 1 Cor. 3.3 – for you are still of the flesh. For while there is jealousy and strife among you, are you not of the flesh and behaving only in a human way? b. Christians are called to think Christianly , that is, to dwell their minds on things of excellence and good ness, Phil. 4.8 – Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.
