(3) Ps. 86.5 – For you, O Lord, are good and forgiving, abounding in steadfast love to all who call upon you. (4) Ps. 86.15 – But you, O Lord, are a God merciful and gracious, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love and faithfulness.

b. Jesus is our Advocate whose death and punishment upon Calvary allows God to forgive us when we confess.

(1) Jesus is our Advocate, 1 John 2.1-2 – My little children, I am writing these things to you so that you may not sin. But if anyone does sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous. [2] He is the propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only but also for the sins of the whole world. (2) There is only one mediator between God and humankind, 1 Tim. 2.5 – For there is one God, and there is one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus. (3) The work of mediation has already been done for us in the person and work of Christ on the cross, 1 Pet. 3.

c. As High Priest, Jesus makes intercession for us before the Father.

(1) Rom. 8.34 – Who is to condemn? Christ Jesus is the one who died – more than that, who was raised – who is at the right hand of God, who indeed is interceding for us.

(2) Heb. 7.24-25 – But he holds his priesthood permanently, because he continues forever.
