c. Our exultation in God should be personal and intense

(1) Ps. 28.7-8 – The Lord is my strength and my shield; in him my heart trusts, and I am helped; my heart exults, and with my song I give thanks to him. (2) 1 Sam. 2.1 – And Hannah prayed and said, “My heart exults in the Lord; my strength is exalted in the Lord. My mouth derides my enemies, because I rejoice in your salvation.” (3) Ps. 9.14 – that I may recount all your praises, that in the gates of the daughter of Zion I may rejoice in your salvation. (4) Ps. 43.4-5 – Then I will go to the altar of God, to God my exceeding joy, and I will praise you with the lyre, O God, my God. [5] Why are you cast down, O my soul, and why are you in turmoil within me? Hope in God; for I shall again praise him, my salvation and my God.

d. The people of God are commanded to rejoice in the Lord.

(1) Ps. 149.2 – Let Israel be glad in his Maker; let the children of Zion rejoice in their King!

(2) Deut. 12.7 – And there you shall eat before the Lord your God, and you shall rejoice, you and your households, in all that you undertake, in which the Lord your God has blessed you. (3) Ps. 100.1-3 – Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the earth! [2] Serve the Lord with gladness! Come into his presence with singing! [3] Know that the Lord, he is God! It is he who made us, and we are his; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.
