Father’s commandments and abide in his love. [11] These things I have spoken to you, that my joy may be in you, and that your joy may be full. (2) John 16.24 – Until now you have asked nothing in my name. Ask, and you will receive, that your joy may be full. (3) Rom. 15.13 – May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope.
(4) 1 Pet. 1.8 – Though you have not seen him, you love him. Though you do not now see him, you believe in him and rejoice with joy that is inexpressible and filled with glory.
f. Joy of the Lord is anchored in truth, and as such, need never deny the presence of evil nor the certainty of tribulation in this fallen world, John 16.33 – I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world. g. Celebration is a discipline because we are commanded to celebrate and be joyful in the Lord. Because God has commanded us to rejoice and acknowledge his blessings, joy is insulated against whim, emotion, and circumstance.
h. Celebration in Christ has significant benefits.
(1) We are strengthened in the Lord.
(2) We are made mindful of the many things God has done for us.
(3) We are released from the dull sadness that comes from taking ourselves too seriously.
