c. There is only one mediator between God and humankind, 1 Tim. 2.3-6 – This is good, and it is pleasing in the sight of God our Savior, [4] who desires all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth. [5] For there is one God, and there is one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, [6] who gave himself as a ransom for all, which is the testimony given at the proper time. d. The covenant was ratified in the shed blood of Jesus upon Calvary, and is commemorated in the Lord’s Supper, Matt. 26.28 – For this is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins.
e. Our redemption was purchased through his blood on the cross, Eph. 1.7 – In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of his grace.
3. Christ our High Priest makes it possible for us to have a relationship with God: discipline, therefore, must be seen as the joyful response of obedience to Christ’s gracious mediation .
a. We were made alive through the cross, and our sin debt was set aside through Jesus’ suffering on the cross, Col. 2.13-15 – And you, who were dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, God made alive together with him, having forgiven us all our trespasses, [14] by canceling the record of debt that stood against us with its legal demands.
