A Compe l l i ng Tes t imony

2. The Remedy : understanding that apart from the Church of Jesus Christ, i.e., other believers, we cannot become what God intends for us to be

a. Eph. 4.4-6 – There is one body and one Spirit – just as you were called to the one hope that belongs to your call – [5] one Lord, one faith, one baptism, [6] one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all.

b. Rom. 12.4-5 – For as in one body we have many members, and the members do not all have the same function, [5] so we, though many, are one body in Christ, and individually members one of another.

c. 1 Cor. 12.12-13 – For just as the body is one and has many members, and all the members of the body, though many, are one body, so it is with Christ. [13] For in one Spirit we were all baptized into one body – Jews or Greeks, slaves or free – and all were made to drink of one Spirit.

d. Col. 3.15 – And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body. And be thankful.

F. Believing discipline immunizes you against the attacks of the world, the flesh, and the devil

1. The Problem : thinking that one’s personal discipline or lack of it can immunize you against the power of temptation, lust, and the attacks of the enemy

2. The Remedy : fight the good fight of faith, utilizing the disciplines to reorient our lives to the “sowing in the Spirit”
