c. We are to treasure the training we have received from our leaders, 2 Tim. 1.13 – Follow the pattern of the sound words that you have heard from me, in the faith and love that are in Christ Jesus.

d. Those who train must be able to use their lives as a living outline of faith, 2 Tim. 3.10 – You, however, have followed my teaching, my conduct, my aim in life, my faith, my patience, my love, my steadfastness.

e. Our knowledge of our spiritual directors is based on our personal knowledge of their life and reputation, 2 Tim. 3.14 – But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have firmly believed, knowing from whom you learned it. f. Spiritual direction is about the advantage of the students, not the leaders, 1 Cor. 10.33 – just as I try to please everyone in everything I do, not seeking my own advantage, but that of many, that they may be saved.

g. We are to keep our eyes focused on the example of our spiritual directors and leaders, Phil. 3.17 – Brothers, join in imitating me, and keep your eyes on those who walk according to the example you have in us.

h. Following the model of a spiritual director is profound, Phil. 4.9 – What you have learned and received and heard and seen in me – practice these things, and the God of peace will be with you.

i. New believers are able to seek and receive pastoral care that they can follow, 1 Thess. 1.6 – And you became imitators of us and of the Lord, for you received the word in much affliction, with the joy of the Holy Spirit.
