Morning Prayers
O Lord our God, who has promised the crown of life to them that love thee: grant us to love thee for what thou art, seeing that what thou givest is thyself; and so loving thee, may we endure temptation, run the straight race, and enter into life; through the merits of Jesus Christ our Lord, unto whom, with them, the Father, and the Holy Ghost, be praise and glory, world without end. Amen.
~ James Ferguson Prayers for Public Worship . pg. 346-7.
We give Thee hearty thanks for the rest of the past night and for the gift of a new day, with its opportunities of pleasing Thee. Grant that we may so pass its hours in the perfect freedom of Thy service, that at eventide we may again give thanks unto Thee; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. ~ Prayer Book of the Anglican Communion: Canada Suter. The Book of English Collects . p. 253. O God, the King eternal, whose light divides the day from the night and turns the shadow of death into the morning: Drive far from us all wrong desires, incline our hearts to keep your law, and guide our feet into the way of peace; that, having done your will with cheerfulness during the day, we may, when night comes, rejoice to give you thanks; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
~ The Book of Common Prayer . p. 99.
Now, O Lord, we come before Thee through Christ, and beg of Thee to fill our souls with Thyself, to be near us day by day and hour by hour, strengthening us by Thy strength, and guiding us by Thy hand, till Thou lead us home to Thine eternal peace and joy; through the same Jesus Christ. Amen. ~ Anonymous, A.D. 1890. S. E. Fox. A Chain of Prayer across the Ages . p. 180.
