and have heard their cry because of their taskmasters. I know their sufferings.”

2. God hears the cries of his people and determines to deliver them, Exod. 3.8-9 (ESV) – and I have come down to deliver them out of the hand of the Egyptians and to bring them up out of that land to a good and broad land, a land flowing with milk and honey, to the place of the Canaanites, the Hittites, the Amorites, the Perizzites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites. [9] And now, behold, the cry of the people of Israel has come to me, and I have also seen the oppression with which the Egyptians oppress them. 3. God sets apart his special leader (Moses) to communicate his word, display his signs and wonders to deliver his people, Exod. 3.10 (ESV) – Come, I will send you to Pharaoh that you may bring my people, the children of Israel, out of Egypt. 4. God frees his people in order that they might worship and represent him, Exod. 14.30-31 (ESV) – Thus the Lord saved Israel that day from the hand of the Egyptians, and Israel saw the Egyptians dead on the seashore. [31] Israel saw the great power that the Lord used against the

Egyptians, so the people feared the Lord, and they believed in the Lord and in his servant Moses.

B. Principles for the people of God today

1. Freedom from Egypt: Liberty from bondage through the ministry of Jesus Christ, Luke 4.18-19 (ESV) – “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed, [19] to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.”
