that belonged to him was his own, but they had everything in common. [33] And with great power the apostles were giving their testimony to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus, and great grace was upon them all. [34] There was not a needy person among them, for as many as were owners of lands or houses sold them and brought the proceeds of what was sold [35] and laid it at the apostles’ feet, and it was distributed to each as any had need.

D. Unique insights for spiritual leaders: What is the role and responsibility of those specially called to represent the Christian community?

1. Demonstrate through your disciplined life and service your discipleship in Christ in the body of Christ.

a. They must be disciples of Jesus (not recent converts), 1 Tim. 3.6; 5.22.

b. They must be well-attested members of the body, cf. 2 Cor. 8.22.

c. They must maintain a compelling testimony in the Church and the world.

(1) James 3.13 (ESV) – Who is wise and understanding among you? By his good conduct let him show his works in the meekness of wisdom.

(2) Col. 4.5 (ESV) – Conduct yourselves wisely toward outsiders, making the best use of the time.
