R: 1 Such as the Lord showed and taught, when he said: Love one another even as I have loved you; no-one has greater love than to lay down his life for his friends (John 15:12–13). 2 For if it is necessary to lay down even one’s life, then how much more ought we to show devotion and zeal in lesser matters, 3 not of course to accommodate human wishes, but to benefit each towards the goal proposed in common to all of being well pleasing to God.
