Setting

The kingdom of the Medes and Persians (formerly Babylon)

• King Darius • Daniel • Government officials – satraps and high officials under Darius Introduction and Rising Action 1. Daniel excels as a government official and makes the other officials jealous. 2. In a plot against Daniel, some the government officials convince Darius to make a decree that anyone who prays to someone other than the king should be thrown into the lion’s den. 3. When Daniel hears of the decree, he continues to pray three times a day to the Lord. Climax 4. Although Darius is grieved, the officials hold him to his decree. He throws Daniel into the lion’s den. 5. In the morning when Darius rushes to check on Daniel, he finds him alive and well. The Lord sent angel to shut the mouths of the lions. Falling Action and Resolution 6. Darius removes Daniel from the lion’s den and praises the Lord. 7. He throws the officials that had conspired against Daniel into the lion’s den, and they are immediately torn apart by the lions.
