Plot

Introduction and Rising Action 1. After Babylon falls to Persia, King Cyrus allows the Jewish people return to Jerusalem. 2. Their first work is to rebuild the temple. Climax 3. They lay the foundation, but then they face opposition from neighboring peoples. 4. Zerubbabel and Jeshua lead the people to continue building in the face of the opposition. 5. The prophets Haggai and Zechariah urged the people on by prophesying in the name of the Lord. Falling Action and Resolution 6. King Darius issues a decree that all the opposition to the Jews should cease, and that everything they need should be provided for them. 7. They complete and dedicate the second temple, and celebrate the Passover festival that year.
