Plot

Introduction and Rising Action 1. Eight days after his birth, Mary and Joseph bring Jesus to the temple according to the requirements of Old Testament Law. Climax 2. The Holy Spirit leads Simeon, a righteous and holy man, into the temple at this same time. 3. He takes Jesus in his arms and praises God for allowing him to see the Messiah. He then speaks a prophecy to Mary that Jesus, as Messiah, is destined for opposition and that her own soul would be pierced. 4. Anna, a prophet of the Lord, is also there and she begins to tell everyone around about Jesus. Falling Action and Resolution 5. Mary and Joseph return home where Jesus grows strong and wise with the favor of God upon him.

Old Testament Foundation: The Deliverer Is Recognized

The Lord Gives the Law, Exodus 34.29-35 In his arrival, Messiah comes not to abolish the Law, but to fulfill it.
