Plot
Introduction and Rising Action 1. Jesus comes down to the Jordan river to be baptized by John.
Climax 2. John objects saying the he needs to be baptized by Jesus. 3. Jesus convinces to baptize him by saying that it is necessary to fulfill all righteousness. 4. As Jesus comes up from the water the Spirit of God descends like a dove and rests on him.
Falling Action and Resolution 5. The voice of the Father comes from heaven and declares Jesus as his Son and beloved.
Old Testament Foundation: Fully Human/Fully Divine
Noah’s Ark, Genesis 6-9 (p. 46) As the Lord rescued Noah and his family through the waters, so too Christ enters the waters in order to fulfill all righteousness and bring about a a great rescue from the coming destruction.
The Red Sea, Exodus 14-15 (p. 70) As Moses and the people passed through the Red Sea and then were led up into the wilderness to be tested, so too Christ passes through the waters and is led into the wilderness.
