Plot

Introduction and Rising Action 1. Jesus tells a story to a crowd of people while he sits by the sea. 2. Later, when they are alone, the disciples ask him to explain the parable. Climax (The Parable and Its Meaning) 3. A Sower goes to sow some seed. This seed is the word of the kingdom. 4. Some seed falls by the path and is eaten by the birds. This represents one who hears the word, but the evil one comes and snatches it away. 5. Some seed falls into rocky soil where is sprouts quickly but dies. This represents one who hears and receives the word, but who quickly falls away because of difficulties. 6. Some seed falls among thorns and is choked. This represents those who hears the word and receive it, but the world chokes out any fruitfulness. 7. Some seed falls on fertile soil and yield a crop of thirty, sixty or a hundredfold. This represents those who hear the word and receive it, and who bears the fruit of the Kingdom.

Falling Action and Resolution 8. Jesus concludes his parable saying “He who has ears, let him hear.”
