A pharaoh arises in Egypt who does not remember Joseph, and who oppresses and enslaves the Israelites. 2. He gives an order that all male Hebrew babies should be put to death as soon as they are born. 3. Shiphrah and Puah, who serve as midwives to the Hebrew women, conspire to let the boys live. Climax 4. A Levite and his wife have a baby boy. Three months after his birth they set in him adrift in a basket on the Nile River. 5. Pharaoh’s daughter finds the baby and takes pity on him. She draws him out of the water. 6. Pharaoh’s daughter unknowingly gives the baby back to his mother to be weaned.
