Plot
Introduction and Rising Action 1. After the Israelites enter the land, they do not stay faithful to the Lord. The Lord allows their enemies to defeat them, but he raises up judges to deliver them. 2. When the Midianites defeat Israel, the Lord calls Gideon, who is treading out grain in his winepress. 3. Gideon repeatedly asks the Lord for signs to confirm the word of the Lord. 4. When the Lord calls Gideon to destroy the altar of Baal in his hometown. Climax 5. Before he leads the army out to fight the Midianites, Gideon twice asks the Lord to confirm his word through a sign with a fleece. The Lord confirms his word. 6. He pares Gideon’s army down from 32,000 to 300.
Falling Action and Resolution 7. With the 300, the Lord delivers Israel from Midian.
