Plot

Introduction and Rising Action 1. The Israelites demand a king like the other nations around them. 2. The Lord grants their request and sends to Samuel to anoint Saul. 3. Saul is a head taller than anyone else in Israel. Climax 4. Samuel first anoints Saul secretly in the land of Zuph. Saul is out looking for his father’s lost donkeys. The Lord directs Samuel to anoint his king. 5. On his return trip, Saul meets a group of prophets in Gibeah. The Spirit of God possesses him and he begins to prophesy with them. Falling Action and Resolution 6. At Mizpah, Samuel calls all Israel to come before him so that a king can be chosen. 7. Saul’s family is chosen by lot, but Saul is hiding among the baggage. When he is found, Samuel presents him to the people as their king.
