Plot

Introduction and Rising Action 1. Samuel explains to Saul that he is to attack and completely destroy the Amalekites, not taking any spoils for himself. 2. Saul attacks and defeats the Amalekites, but takes the best of the spoils, and allows King Agag to live. 3. The Lord tells Samuel what is happening. He says that he regrets making Saul king, and the he will give the kingdom to another. Climax 4. Samuel confronts Saul at Carmel. 5. Saul tries to explain that he was keeping the spoils as a sacrifice for the Lord. 6. Samuel says the Lord desires obedience rather than sacrifice. Falling Action and Resolution 7. As Samuel turns to leave, Saul grabs his robe and it rips. Samuels says that in the same way, the Lord will rip the kingdom from Saul’s hand. Samuel then kills Agag himself.
