Plot

Introduction and Rising Action 1. The Lord sends Samuel to the house of Jesse, the Bethlehemite to anoint a new king in place of Saul. 2. Samuel invites Jesse’s whole family to a sacrifice. 3. Samuel is impressed by Jesse’s first son, Eliab, and believes that surely he is the one to be the next king. 4. The Lord tells Samuel that he is not looking at the man’s appearance but this heart. Climax 5. Jesse made seven of his sons pass before Samuel, but the Lord did not choose any of them. 6. When Samuel hears that there is another son out keeping the sheep, he tells them to bring him.

Falling Action and Resolution 7. Samuel anoints David, the youngest son of Jesse, as the next king of Israel.
