Plot

Introduction and Rising Action 1. Goliath, the gigantic Philistine champion, challenges Israel to send forth a man for individual combat. 2. Saul, along with the whole army of Israel, is terrified of Goliath. 3. David arrives with provision for his brothers who are in the army. Climax 4. When he hears the challenge of Goliath he is ready to fight him. 5. Saul tries to outfit David with his armor, but David takes only five smooth stones and a slingshot to fight the giant. 6. After declaring that the battle belongs to the Lord, David kills Goliath.

Falling Action and Resolution 7. David then leads Israel in a rout of the Philistines.
