Conclusion
» In addition to the basic tools of biblical interpretation, many other historical, theological, and exegetical tools exist that can greatly enrich our understanding of the Word of God. » Regardless of what tools we use, not one of them is meant to serve as a substitute for our own disciplined, prayerful, and obedient study of the Word of God. » However, if we are cautious and use these tools correctly, i.e., as a means to understand the biblical world, these tools can revolutionize our study of the Word. » Not only will we be better fed, but, through them, we will be able to preach the good news of the Kingdom and feed the flock of God as Christ has commanded us to do. » May God give us the passion and energy to be workmen and work women who study to prove ourselves diligent laborers in the Word of God, handling accurately his perfect Word of truth! The following questions were designed to help you review the material in the second video segment. This particular teaching session focused on some of the additional tools in biblical interpretation that can greatly enhance our study of the Word of God. These included the obtaining of several different translations of the Bible, a Bible atlas and Bible handbook, a topical Bible, a dictionary of theology, and commentaries of various kinds. All of these tools can provide us with invaluable help in bridging the distance between our world and the world of the authors and their audience. Review the following facts about these tools, concentrating especially on what rules and principles we ought to be aware of in order to use them correctly in our own biblical interpretation.
