Seminar 8 Leadership Development 1

Discipleship occurs at many levels within the church. Beyond the practice of making disciples within the church as discussed in the previous seminar, every church will need a leadership development strategy. Creating a leadership pipeline and a process to identify, equip, and on-board those gifted for leadership in your church is essential to longevity and next-generation leadership. The following outline is offered to help you move toward creating a strategy to identify, equip, and commission leaders for the work God calls them to do.

Developing Leaders in Urban Church Plants: From Commission to Community

I. Commission A. Definition: Recognized the call of God and replies with prompt obedience to his lordship and leading. B. Key Scriptures to keep in mind: 2 Tim. 1:6-14; 1 Tim. 4:14; Acts 1:8; Matt. 28:18-20

C. Critical concept: on the authority of God – God’s leader acts on God’s recognized call and authority, acknowledged by the saints and God’s leaders. D. Central elements: 1. A clear call from God 2. Authentic testimony before God and others
