and Pastors, then the Elders shall determine the actions to be taken, which may include bringing the member before the church and/or removal from membership, Matt. 18.17; 1 Cor. 5.11-13; 2 Thess. 3.6-14.
VII. Discipline in the church must be done soberly and biblically, and always connected to two significant and principal purposes:
A. To restore an erring brother or sister to the Lord and to the Body, Matthew 18.15-17.
B. To enable our church to stay true to its calling, beliefs, membership, and ministry as led by the Spirit of the Lord, 1 John 2.19; 1 Cor. 5.9-13. VIII. Disunity and conflict should never be tolerated in the body, in order that we may maintain the unity of Spirit in the bond of peace, Ephesians 4.1-3.
A. In all things considered essential, let there be unity .
B. In all things considered incidental, let there be liberty .
C. In all things regardless of their significance, let there be charity .
The Bottom Line • Is Jesus Head over the affairs of my life? • Do I acknowledge the Bible to be the final authority in all matters of my faith and living? • Do I believe that God leads through His delegated authorities whom He has authorized to act on behalf of the best interests and well being of the members of the body? • Do I accept the leadership and decision-making structure of Anyname, and do I acknowledge my willingness to participate in it, as God leads?
