Ripe for Harvest
342 • R IPE FOR H ARVEST
D. In a coat of mail and helmet (= righteousness and salvation; Isa 59.17)
Isa. 59.16-19 (ESV) – He saw that there was no man, and wondered that there was no one to intercede; then his own arm brought him salvation, and his righteousness upheld him. He put on righteousness as a breastplate, and a helmet of salvation on his head; he put on garments of vengeance for clothing, and wrapped himself in zeal as a cloak. According to their deeds, so will he repay, wrath to his adversaries, repayment to his enemies; to the coastlands he will render repayment. So they shall fear the name of the Lord from the west, and his glory from the rising of the sun; will come like a rushing stream, which the wind of the Lord drives.
E. With a spear (Hab. 3.11; cf. Ps. 35.3)
Ps. 35.3 (ESV) – Draw the spear and javelin against my pursuers! Say to my soul, “I am your salvation!”
Hab. 3.11 (ESV) – The sun and moon stood still in their place at the light of your arrows as they sped, at the flash of your glittering spear.
F. With a bow and arrows (Hab. 3.9; cf. 2 Sam. 22.15)
2 Sam. 22.15 (ESV) – And he sent out arrows and scattered them; lightning, and routed them.
Hab. 3.9 (ESV) – You stripped the sheath from your bow, calling for many arrows. Selah. You split the earth with rivers.
G. Shield and buckler (= truth; Pss. 91.4; 35.2)
Ps. 35.2 (ESV) – Take hold of shield and buckler and rise for my help!
Ps. 91.4 (ESV) – He will cover you with his pinions, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness is a shield and buckler.
