C. As the central instrument in preparing the disciple for the work of the ministry, 2 Tim. 3.16-17

2 Tim. 3.14-17 – But as for you, continue in the things which you have learned and been assured of, knowing from whom you have learned them, and that from childhood you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.

1. As profitable for doctrine (gaining the perspective of God)

2. As profitable for reproof (identifying misbeliefs and falsehoods of the enemy)

3. As profitable for correction (replacing lies with the sure Word of God)

4. As profitable for instruction in righteousness (establishing solid habit patterns of truth-speaking and truth-living)

D. Means of ingesting the Word of God: Teaching your disciple to become a person of the Word of God

1. Hearing the Word taught

2. Reading the Word regularly

3. Studying (rightly dividing) the Word of truth

4. Memorizing the Word together

5. Learning how to meditate on the Word

6. Speaking the Word of God with boldness and effectiveness
