Luke 6.46-48 – Why do you call me “Lord, Lord,” and not do what I tell you? [47] Everyone who comes to me and hears my words and does them, I will show you what he is like: [48] he is like a man building a house, who dug deep and laid the foundation on the rock. And when a flood arose, the stream broke against that house and could not shake it, because it had been well built. Luke 11.28 – But he said, “Blessed rather are those who hear the word of God and keep it!” Remind your students constantly that the study of the word of God is to lead to the transformation of their lives and the renewal of their minds (Rom. 12.2), not merely the filling of their notebooks, and the completion of their assignments! Help them probe for sensitive areas in their lives that they may apply the Word, and to do so promptly and fully. Helping the students understand the role of prayer in biblical interpretation is the reason for this section. We ought never to sever the acquisition of the wisdom of the Lord from requesting it from him: James 1.5-6 – If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him. [6] But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea that is driven and tossed by the wind. 1 Kings 3.7-9 – And now, O Lord my God, you have made your servant king in place of David my father, although I am but a little child. I do not know how to go out or come in. [8] And your servant is in the midst of your people whom you have chosen, a great people, too many to be numbered or counted for multitude. [9] Give your servant therefore an understanding mind to govern your people, that I may discern between good and evil, for who is able to govern this your great people?” Prov. 3.5-7 – Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. [6] In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths. [7] Be not wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord, and turn away from evil.
