c. By providing tender, loving, care on the journey as God leads the flock, John 21.16.

B. The pastor is a protector and guardian .

1. A hireling flees at the first sign of danger of an approaching predator on the flock, John 10.12-13.

2. The abandonment of a flock will certainly result in some of the lambs being eaten, others scattered, John 10.12.

3. A pastor is a guardian, who like Messiah Jesus guarded and protected his sheep by dying for us on the cross.

a. Christ never forsook us, but laid his life down for the sheep, John 10.11.
