After reciting and/or singing the Nicene Creed (located in the Appendix), pray the following prayer: Eternal, faithful God, we pray for our pastor. Grant him grace to speak boldly that he may proclaim thy Word unafraid, in season and out of season, and be a faithful steward of thy mysteries. Hold him fast to the one thing needful and give him strength for his ministry. And open thou our hearts, that we may gladly hear thy Word and never weary in the doing of thy holy will; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Who You Are Is Shouting at Me In the last decade, the evangelical Church has suffered much in the moral breakdown of a number of its leaders who were exposed to public ridicule and shame due to their own sexual misconduct. Important and influential Christian leaders whose preaching and teaching ministries went around the world fell from dizzying heights to the hard earth of reality because their lives did not coincide with their messages. In some way these notable examples illustrate a fundamental spiritual truth: our lives communicate and shout to others as much as our language ever does. The little quip “Your life is talking so loud I can’t hear what you are saying” seems to be more than just a little homespun wit. In your opinion, what is the relationship between the character of the preacher and the perceived validity of his message? How connected is our testimony and reputation to the integrity of the Word of God and to the credibility of our message?
