Truly, if the assertions we made in this lesson concerning the Holy Spirit are correct, our ministry of preaching, our very life is inseparable from our spirituality, that is, our relationship to the Holy Spirit. God longs to be longed for, and we must oblige him by admitting our need for his grace and aid. Share specific requests with your fellow students, and trust God together to provide you with the grace to have his will accomplished in your life. It has been attributed to John Calvin to have referred to prayer as “the soul of faith,” and truly our faith is lifeless and empty without prayer. Seek to make contact with God on the issues covered in this lesson, and trust him for provision and direction.

In our next lesson, Foundations of Christian Mission: The Vision and Biblical Foundation for Christian Mission , we will look at mission as the warfare of the ages. We will see the proclamation of God’s kingdom rule in the person of Jesus of Nazareth. Beginning with the clear affirmation of God’s sovereignty, we see God has determined to reestablish his rule over his creation, which fell from his grace through the rebellion of the devil and humankind at the Fall. Since this time, God has taken the position of warrior to bring the universe back under his rulership. In the person of Jesus of Nazareth, God is reasserting his right to rule over the universe, and mission is the proclamation of that Kingdom come in Christ.
