160 Sacred Roots Workshop: Retr ieving the Great Tradi t ion in the Contemporary Church
c. Refuse to differentiate among people groups as to God’s ability to win and transform
d. Accept the truth that God determines targets, while we determine efforts
C. An unleashed Gospel will never be commercialized!
2 Cor. 2.17 (ESV) – For we are not, like so many, peddlers of God's word, but as men of sincerity, as commissioned by God, in the sight of God we speak in Christ.
1. Selling, or testifying?: the definition of “commercialize” (peddlers of God’s Word, 2 Cor. 2.17)
2. How do we commercialize the Gospel? When we allow marketing strategies and professional handling techniques to dominate and determine both the content and presentation of our message, that results in cheap grace – shallow, empty believism not biblical discipleship.
3. Tendencies to commercialize
a. Embracing uncritically marketing strategies, language, and techniques in Gospel work
b. Communicating exclusively the blessedness of faith while downplaying biblical discipleship
c. Defining faith and spiritual formation as privatized, existential, and churchless
d. Making numbers and monies the goal over against faithful witness and representation
