Read and reflect upon the following cases and concepts, and provide answers and insights into their resolution, based on the texts you studied above. 1. “I don’t feel very victorious right now.” Many (if not most) new Christians start off on their Christian journeys with much joy and confidence, only to meet opposition early, and then find themselves struggling with sin and shame. Having started strong, they are both shocked and discouraged that the Christian life is “not as easy as the preacher promised.” They still are tempted, they still get angry, they still give in to sin, and they still have to struggle with lust, greed, and pride. They ask themselves, “Where is the victory spoken about in the Bible? Why can’t I just call on the Lord and things be made right just at that moment? If God is on my side, why then do I still struggle?” What would you say to someone who felt disillusioned about the Christ Way – who did not feel particularly victorious in the midst of the struggle and stress of everyday life? 2. “How can I know for sure I really have been forgiven?” Every growing or immature Christian will encounter doubts about whether they have in fact been saved. Though they have turned their lives over to the Lord, they will inevitably think, say, and do things that are out of sync with their new life in Christ.
