IV. Competence: a Person of Depth and Skill

A. Definition: Respond in the power of the Spirit with excellence in carrying out their appointed tasks and ministry Acts 20.32 - And now I commend you to God and to the word of his grace, which is able to build you up and to give you the inheritance among all those who are sanctified.

B. Key Scriptures:

1. Facility and obedience to the words of Jesus is the most important resource in liberating those under our leadership, John 8.31-32.

2. Depth of knowledge should be linked to a heart full of goodness and an ability to instruct (counsel) others into the ways of Jesus and his Kingdom, Rom. 15.14.

3. The gifts of the Holy Spirit should be present in the leader’s life and ministry, Eph. 4.11-13.

4. The ability to rightly divide and accurately handle God’s Holy Scriptures is essential for godly leadership.
