While we have emphasized the role and place of the local church in follow-up and discipleship, it will be important in these case studies to see that not all churches are edifying and Christ-honoring. The need is immense for us to train our students to be aware of the variance that exists in the quality of Christian discipleship being displayed in churches. Assure the students that discernment and wisdom are critical skills and gifts to be employed, even as they seek to find the best places and methods to equip the new believers who have responded to the Gospel through their evangelism and oikos penetration. It is certainly one thing to know that the local assembly is God’s means for catechesis, growth, and spiritual development; it is another matter entirely to plant churches which reflect this depth and substance. By the end of this second class session, you ought to begin to emphasize with the students the need for do the spadework to plan their Ministry Project. Also, by this time, you should have emphasized their need to select the Bible text for their Exegetical Project. These projects are done with far better thought and excellence when students prepare for them as early as possible. Make sure that you remind them of these facts for, as in all study, students usually are preoccupied with a number of thing, and unfortunately at the end of the course many things will become due. It is a rare student indeed who does not begin to feel the pressure of getting a number of assignments in at the same time, all which are due within a short period. Any way that you can remind them of the need for advanced planning will be wonderfully helpful for them, whether they realize it immediately or not. Because of these circumstances, we have found that you help your students greatly if you insist on their work at the times that you say they are do. As a matter of fact, we even advocate that you consider docking a modest amount of points for late papers, exams, and projects. While the amount may be nominal, your enforcement of your rules will help them to learn to be efficient and on time as they continue in their studies.
