After reciting and/or singing the Nicene Creed (located in the Appendix), pray the following prayer: Almighty God, your blessed Son before his passion prayed for his disciples that they might be one, as you and he are one. Grant that your church, being bound together in love and obedience to you, may be united in one body by the one Spirit, that the world may believe in him whom you have sent, your Son Jesus Christ our Lord; who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.

A Prophet Is Honored, Except at Home

Some have believed and taught, based on the saying of our Lord’s teaching in Matthew 13.57 - “And they took offense at him. But Jesus said to them, ‘A prophet is not without honor except in his hometown and in his own household.’” Their application goes something like this: the hardest people to reach with the Gospel are those members of our own families and those in our own households. Because they have seen us as we are, they find it doubly difficult to listen to us share the transformation that our Lord has brought in our lives. Do you believe this particular argument? Would you say that this is a correct teaching of Scripture regarding the difficulty of reaching those in our own families with the Gospel of Christ?
