Make certain that you read carefully the textbook assignments above, as well as memorize your Scripture passage for the week. As usual, write a brief summary of your textbook reading assignment, and bring these summaries to class next week (please see the “Reading Completion Sheet” at the end of this lesson). Now is also the time to begin to think about the particular kind of ministry project you will want to conduct. In the same way, you ought to decide what specific passage of Scripture you will use for your exegetical project. A word to the wise: the sooner you determine your projects and the issues associated with them, the easier it will be later in the course when they become due. So please, do not delay in determining either your ministry or exegetical project. The sooner you select, the more time you will have to prepare! Again, in this lesson we have considered the principle of oikos as it relates to the “E” of Evangelism . We saw how crucial that web of common kinship relationships, friendships, and associations that make up a person’s larger social circle can be in winning urbanites to the Lord. In our next lesson we will establish the importance of following up new converts to Christ through the process of incorporating them into the local church. We will also explore the process of discipling growing believers. As we take up the role of model, mentor, and friend with these growing disciples who have been won to the Lord, we come closer to the ideal of disciple making as commanded by our Lord. Indeed, as we win, follow up, and disciple new believers in Christ, we will be able to assemble them into a functioning church. Only by planting strong, dynamic churches in the city that are filled with solidly converted and well-equipped disciples can our neighborhoods be transformed by the Gospel of Christ.
