After reciting and/or singing the Nicene Creed (located in the Appendix), pray the following prayer: O Lord, our creator, by your holy prophet you taught your ancient people to seek the welfare of the cities in which they lived. We commend our neighborhood to your care, that it might be kept free from social strife and decay. Give us strength of purpose and concern for others, that we may create here a community of justice and peace where your will may be done; through your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Urban Renewal, Jesus Style
Any student of urban renewal in America knows that billions of dollars have gone into urban renewal projects in inner city communities across the country. Since the late 60s, an amazing amount of resources, monies, and efforts have gone into making the American inner city a safer, healthier, and more desirable place to live and raise a family. Despite this amazing amount of government and economic investment, our inner cities are still plagued by drugs, violence, broken families, and economic disenfranchisement. Various Christian groups have emerged with strategies to do urban renewal informed by more Christian principles of justice and peace. Some advocate a relocation of Christian individuals and families back into urban communities, calling for a more incarnational approach to the city. Others focus on strategies that emphasize more law-enforcement, holding heads of families
