Your ability to apply the motifs and perspectives of the Scriptures to your own life and ministry will condition your ability to make these motifs plain to others. The drama of Scripture, the vision of God’s promise and its fulfillment in Christ, is for you first, before you think about expressing, declaring, or inviting others to experience its truth and life giving power. Meditate upon these truths, and ask the Holy Spirit to direct you to a real practical ministry connection—one which you will think about and pray for throughout this next week. God does not merely want you to think about the drama of God; rather, he wants you to live it. Correspondingly, God does not merely want you to read of the promise and its fulfillment in Jesus; he wants you to claim it with all your heart. Ask the Holy Spirit to apply these truths and perspectives to your life, and yield yourself to him to lead you as you meditate upon these truths this week. Pray to the Lord for strength to understand and apply these truths to your own life, and in the lives of your fellow students. Remember, the goal is that we would be completely compelled by the story, and that we would see ourselves as a part of the promise fulfilled in Christ. Pray to the Lord that these truths will take on a new significance in your life and ministry, and that the Spirit would help you to see the Bible as a single unfolding story, the story of God’s work in the world, and our place as characters in that story. Pray that the Lord might help you get a greater sense of the unity of the Bible, of the power of the OT as preparation for the work of Christ, and as mission as the expression of the unity between what God promised in the OT and what he fulfilled in the NT in Christ. Above all, ask the Lord to make these truths come alive in your life as you seek the mind of God through your ongoing study and application of the Scriptures.
