May God give all of us, whether he calls us to the pastorate or not, to be care givers like our Lord, and be willing to lay down our lives for our brothers and sisters, for the glory of God through Christ.

After reciting and/or singing the Nicene Creed (located in the Appendix), pray the following prayer:

Nicene Creed and Prayer

A prayer for pastors . . .

O God, Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who sent Thy Son not to be ministered unto but to minister, and who made him the great Head of the Church, set apart and consecrate this thy servant for the work of the ministry. Give him thy wisdom, and in counsel may he deal wisely as one who has the mind of Christ. Grant him thy spirit of compassion for human needs and fill him with love that he may tenderly care for every soul whom thou dost so graciously love. Strengthen and nourish his faith in thee and in the values of thy Church, that he may increase the faith of his fellow Christians. Cause his study to be meaningful and his work in thy Church fruitful. And give grace unto us all that working together, seeking to know thy will, we may advance thy cause in this place and throughout the world; to the glory of him who preached good news to the captives, even Christ our Lord. Amen.
