Three models and images comprise the role of the deacon in their ministry in the local assembly. These involve the image of a servant, a steward, and an assistant. Urban congregations especially need godly, available deacons, largely because of the vast number of needy, vulnerable people who make up its membership. The role of the deacon is critical for urban Christian community, both in terms of meeting practical needs as well as dividing the labor amongst the leaders to ensure that the congregation’s full priorities are not neglected. Our objective for this segment, The Christian Leader as Deacon: Models, Equipping, and Practice , is to enable you to see that: • Three models and images comprise the role of the deacon in their ministry in the local assembly.
