The Triune God The Greatness of God

page 281 1

Welcome in the strong name of Jesus Christ! After your reading, study, discussion, and application of the materials in this lesson, you will be able to: • Show from Scripture a general outline of the Bible’s teaching about the doctrine of the Trinity , God’s triune personhood. • Explain that the Bible teaches us both that there is only one God, and yet this same God reveals himself as God the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. • Demonstrate from the Scriptures how God is spoken of as one God yet also as plural , that is, more than one person, which speaks of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit as being persons within the Godhead. • Recognize the meaning of God’s trinitarian nature, affirming that the members of the Trinity are one, diverse, and equal, the one true God, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. • Show an understanding of the various aspects of the Father’s greatness, i.e., his spirituality, his life, his personality, his infinite character, and his unchanging essence. 2 Cor. 13.14 - The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ and the love of God and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all. It ought to never surprise us that God is beyond our comprehension, that mystery, wonder, and awe are associated with an infinite spirit being who spoke and twirled millions of galaxies on nothing and flung them into the blackness of space. Modern people cannot stand mystery; science and knowledge must (it is asserted) pull back the curtains of every false wizard pulling cords and speaking into megaphones like the false wizard in the Wizard of Oz. Everything can be explained by appeal to logic, evidence, and reliable processes of truth seeking. Our cultures today have no patience nor confidence in any faith that does not first make itself valid at the bar of the explainable and the testable. • Recite some of the major historical understandings of the Trinity.
